Day 2: Almost, but not quite Home.
Almost 40 hours since I've arrived; I have settled into my temporary abode above the cacophony of HK. Home is now Hollywood (Road, that is.), which is a snake-curved street littered with antique stores, nouveau galleries, and sake bars. I am on a teetery service apartment -- high above and in the smog on the 27th Floor.
The penthouse, which is not quite a Penthouse (it's little, like my former LES apt) boasts views of local bunnyhole apartments and a Victoria's Peak in hiding. Sadly, despite my skydiving adventure for my birthday last year, I still fear heights terribly, so I keep hugging the walls.
Usually, I am not a big shopper. But WOW. The summer 'solde'/sale is ON - and I nabbed an armful of size 34 1/2 shoes from Lane Crawford's (dept store), a size which I've always had difficulty finding in NY. It's amazing how I've managed for the last decade wearing 35s with Dr. Scholl's inserts; had I known this country was hoarding my size - I would've moved sooner !! Lovely, lovely, lovely to shop here ... Ladies, this place is dangerous!! I must restrain my wallet because this is Home now, and not a quickie business trip where I've faltered for the more-than-occasional, irrational splurge for new leather posessions (obsessions) of any kind.
Work beckons me... but I slip in/out, as I am still acclimating. My official cubicle start date in Asia is July 3rd.
